Brussels Airport Marathon & Half Marathon, 1st October 2023
Running for missing children brusselsmarathon-2023

Every year, Missing Children Europe brings together a group of runners who run to raise awareness and funds for Missing Children Europe’s projects to prevent, protect and support missing children. In 2023, we dedicate the marathon event to helping and supporting children who have gone missing as a result of child sexual abuse.

This year, the start of the marathon and half marathon is moving from the Atomium to Place De Brouckère in the city centre and the runners will finish in the King Baudouin Stadium. The programme also features a 10 km and a kids run.

What will the money raised be used for?

The money raised by the Brussels Marathon 2023 will support the CESAGRAM project.

Child sexual abuse, both offline and online, is a growing phenomenon, and so is the grooming that often precedes it. When the intended abuse is offline, often this is accompanied by an episode of missing for the child. To prevent grooming, and the abuse and missing episodes resulting from it, we need a better understanding of the process, how it is facilitated by technology, and how it can be detected and stopped. Also needed is future-proof legislation that allows for these tools to be implemented.

CESAGRAM aims to address this problem by advancing the knowledge base and enhancing the understanding of the link between children who go missing and online grooming for sexual purposes. Learn more here.
