What happens when a child is taken to another country by one of their parents?
What if they do not understand why they have moved, whether they can go back, or what they are allowed to say about what happens next?
Finding Home is a child-friendly website designed to help children and young people understand international parental child abduction and their rights.
Through stories, accessible information and practical guidance, the website helps children make sense of what may be happening to them and understand the processes that can follow when parents disagree about where a child should live. It also provides information on where children can find support and who they can turn to for help.
International parental child abduction can be complex and confusing, particularly for children who may suddenly find themselves in a new country, separated from family, friends and familiar surroundings. Finding Home puts children’s experiences at the centre, helping them understand that their views and rights matter.
The website was developed through an international collaboration led by Professors Marilyn Freeman, Nicola Taylor and Helen Stalford. Since 2024, Missing Children Europe has supported the technical management and promotion of Finding Home, helping to keep the resource accessible, up to date and available to more children.
