Missing Children Europe is looking to recruit a versatile and dynamic Policy and Advocacy Officer with a true passion for children’s rights, to monitor policy developments and advocate for policy change in the field of missing children, including but not limited to children in migration, child sexual abuse, exploitation and trafficking, children in alternative care and situations of homelessness, and hotlines for missing children.

Missing Children Europe represents 31 NGOs in 26 European countries active in combatting the disappearance and sexual exploitation of children. We provide the link between research, policies and organisations on the ground, to protect children from any kind of violence, abuse or neglect that is caused by, or results from them going missing.


The policy and advocacy officer is responsible, in collaboration with relevant staff members and under direction of the Secretary General, for the implementation of Missing Children Europe’s advocacy strategy. To this end, the policy and advocacy officer:

  • closely follows the work of the EU institutions
  • tracks relevant EU, CoE, UN and national legislative and policy developments
  • ensures that relevant information is shared with the concerned staff and members.
  • provides support to the general advocacy of Missing Children Europe
  • provides support to the national advocacy of our members
  • prepares reports, presentations and policy documents.
  • assists with the communication of emerging policy issues to externals and members
  • assists with the development of awareness raising campaigns

Essential duties and responsibilities also include co-coordination of the Initiative for Children in migration, participation in the Child Rights Action Group and other relevant NGO platforms, and maintaining/developing collaboration with key stakeholders.

The Policy and Advocacy officer supports the Secretary General in her duties of external representation in matters related to public policy, including participation in conferences and meetings. The policy and advocacy officer is supported by the policy and programmes intern.


Profile, skills and background:

  • University degree in a relevant field required (law, political science, human rights, EU or international affairs, sociology, psychology, child development or any related field)
  • At least 2-3 years of professional experience in advocacy at EU level are required – experience with CoE, UN or advocacy at national level an asset
  • Excellent understanding of children’s rights and child protection issues required – specific experience in one of the relevant policy fields (migration, social inclusion, homelessness, deinstitutionalization, child sexual abuse and trafficking, international family law) an asset.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English required – other languages, particularly French, an asset
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently as well as stress resistant is essential
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Understanding of the NGO sector / EU umbrella organisations an asset
  • Comfortable working in cooperation with children and young experience experts
  • Ability to work with people from different professional and cultural backgrounds
  • Ability to work well with others in a small team
  • Ambitious, persistent, diplomatic, and with a good sense of humour
  • EU work permit required

Remuneration will depend on the candidate’s experience and qualification, following the remuneration scheme of Missing Children Europe. Packages include holiday scheme, 13th month, lunch vouchers, hospital insurance and reimbursement of transport costs.
