Vacancy for a Policy and Programmes Intern

Missing Children Europe is looking to recruit a multi-faceted and versatile Policy & Programmes Intern to support, execute and implement policy & research efforts and support the programmes implementation within the organisation. 

Missing Children Europe is the European federation for missing and sexually exploited children, representing 31 organisations from 27 European countries. We provide the link between research, policies and organisations on the ground, to protect children from any kind of violence, abuse or neglect that is caused by, or results from them going missing. 

The Policy & Programmes Intern will report to the Head of Advocacy & Migration and will also support the Secretary General, the Coordinator of the Parental Abductions programme and the Hotlines and Runaways project officer on tasks related to the programme. Tasks may include: 

 

Expected tasks  


Policy monitoring  

  • Monitor policy developments and activities relevant for the organisation’s programmes (Children in Migration, Parental Abductions & Runaways), at the EU, national and local levels and on a regular basis 

  • Compile reports and/or briefs on policy developments relevant to the work of the programmes  


Research  

  • Support the Hotlines and Runaways Officer in conducting the annual hotlines data collection, supporting the analysis of results and drafting of the report 

  • Undertake specific research on various topics relating to: the protection of children on the move, child victims of trafficking, missing children in migration, international protection, parental abductions, runaways, child victims of domestic violence and child sexual abuse.  

  • Establish and maintain a database with data on missing children in migration, parental abductions and runaways 


Programmes support 

Support the heads of programme with 

  • administrative work related to the day-to-day running of the programme, including drafting reports to staff, partners and relevant stakeholders 

  • organisation of events 

  • coordination of programme partnerships, including organising and participating to meetings 


Other tasks upon request.  

 

Profile, skills and background 

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in social or political sciences, human rights, EU or international affairs or other relevant field 

  • Work proficiency in English 

  • Understanding of and interest in human rights and children’s rights/child protection issues 

  • Ability to work well in a small team with people from different professional and cultural backgrounds 

  • Ability to think of the big picture while also having an eye for detail  

  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently as well as stress resistant  

  • Positive with a can-do attitude and desire to receive feedback and improve 

  • Ability to work proactively and to take charge of projects and efforts 

  • Ability to work within tight budget constraints and a creative problem solver 

  • Experience in working for the NGO sector 

  • Knowledge of the functioning of the EU institutions policy and decision-making 

 

Our offer 


An exciting internship for 6 months in a small, dynamic organisation dealing with problems related to the disappearance and sexual exploitation of children at a European level. 


Remuneration


This is an unpaid position though expenses such as travel and lunches (up to 6 euros) can be covered.  We are looking for candidates who are required to do an internship as part of their higher education requirements. Note: While we are working from home during COVID19 restrictions, alternative benefits apply such as compensation for your internet connection and printing, postage and other consumables.
